Both stray and pet dogs in all places are subjected to violence and abuse almost on a daily basis. In an effort to raise awareness of animal cruelty as well as to encourage the public to report suspected cases of abuse, our first ever event – Walk for Dogs – was held.

The initial plan was to get as many Malaysians as possible to go to public areas on White Day (14 March 2020), while wearing the official event t-shirt. However, due to the sudden spike in COVID-19 cases, participants were urged to stay at home and flood social media with their pictures instead. The aim was to create enough noise to get the message out that we do not tolerate abuse.
Apart from creating awareness, 10% of the total sales (RM440.50) were donated to pay the veterinary bills of Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB).
After walking to warm up, we ran for dogs…
We upped the game with our second event – Run for Dogs 2020. With the intention to raise dog food for MDDB, participants were given the task to either walk or run a short distance of 5km at their own pace, anytime, anywhere; finishers of this virtual run were each rewarded for their efforts with an e-certificate and a dri-fit t-shirt.
At the end of the event, we successfully collected 431kg of dog food for MDDB; 22 bags of 20kg BFF Dry Dog Food were delivered to MDDB Halfway Home for Disabled and Old Dogs on the 28th of May 2020. A few days before delivering the food, we paid a visit to their new shelter on the outskirts of Rawang.
